The escalating complexity of environmental legislation regarding the use of chemicals in professional auto cleaning operations is driving a major global shift in end-users adopting alternative cleaner, safer and greener cleaning methods that do not require the significant investment in chemical capture and recycling facilities as demanded by the Environmental Protection Agency and government compliance authorities.
Added to this the regions of the world where the use of water for commercial cleaning and domestic vehicle washing has restrictions or is banned outright, we perceive further exponential growth opportunities for eco-minded entrepreneurs and businesses across all market sectors and continents of the world in being able to deliver a complete waterless cleaning and detailing system without any compromise to performance quality or finish they deliver to their customers whilst effectively, efficiently and significantly reducing their carbon footprints and impact on the environment.
Taking a holistic view to the future, with the ever-increasing environmental legislation restraints and catastrophic climate crisis, working in complete harmony with nature and the environment is the key cornerstone to auto care sustainability and will eminently present new business opportunities for climate positive solutions and by partnering with Pearl Global Ltd enables all new and existing customers to be at the forefront of this rapidly developing and strategically important sector with our commercially proven innovative range of high-performance waterless cleaning, detailing and protection products that save vast amounts of precious water, conserve energy, eradicate effluent downstream and airborne pollution.
Q: How do Pearl® Waterless Car Wash products work and why do they not scratch vehicle paint surfaces?
1) Dust and dirt particles are liquefied and encapsulated by special premium grade polymers on contact and are gently ‘lifted and suspended’ away from the surface preventing them from revisiting the surface of the paintwork.
2) The encapsulated substances are then trapped by the microscopic fibres and microfibre cloth weave.
3) Pearl® Advanced Ultra Nano formulation also contains Nano and Carnauba waxes which seal the vehicle’s base metal and wax coat the paint surface at the same time for double protection; repelling water, making the surface super slick, shiny and giving anti-static protective qualities. This helps to prevent dust from being attracted to the surface keeping the surfaces cleaner and shinier for much longer than old-style traditional washing.
Pearl® waterless car wash products definitely do NOT scratch the paint surface or any other surface they come into contact with and like with any vehicle washing it is just a matter of technique in using the correct application methods together with a quality microfibre cloth, the product itself will not scratch the car. A very fast, effective and efficient process by using two quality microfibre cloths, you simply mist spray Pearl® Professional ‘Green’ Waterless Car Wash onto one folded cloth and onto a panel of the vehicle, gently wipe with leading cloth and quickly buff using a second cloth to a brilliant instant mirror gloss shine, repeating the process, top to bottom, until the whole car is not only clean but also highly polished and shiny. The only time water is ever required is if the vehicle has thick mud or sand stuck to the skirts which can be simply rinsed or steamed off (1L of water produces 2 hours worth of steam) from that specific localised area before continuing the all-in-one cleaning and polishing process by applying the waterless product.
Consider the waterless benefits over the implications of conventional washing methods using buckets of soapy suds splashing everywhere and potentially concealing a dirty sponge, rinsing with gallons of water and then using a microfibre cloth and chamois leather having to revisit the same area of the car many times and therefore definitely increasing the likelihood of scratching the paint surface. Many times we have seen evidence of the high-pressure water from hot water blistering paintwork and handheld lances accidentally chipping and scratching the paintwork. Please visit information that explains in detail traditional car wash methods Vs Waterless car wash technology.
Q: Can Waterless products be used in hot and cold climates?
Pearl® Waterless products can be applied in hot direct sunlight however for optimum application conditions we recommend applying the product either in a shaded area or inside a covered car parking area, garage or showroom. When applying in direct sunlight spray a little more onto the vehicle surface as this will allow for the additional evaporation caused through bodywork panel heat and also into the cloth first so it is slightly damp, as this prevents quick drying due to the vehicle body heat absorbing the product.
Pearl® Waterless products can be applied in cold weather climates but in very cold temperatures, you may experience slight streaking. This is because the product becomes less viscous on cold surfaces after the first part of the cleaning process however can be quickly and easily resolved. Simply buff the area gently until the product residue has been completely removed. Use more than one microfibre cloth to dry if necessary. Remember Pearl® Waterless Eco-friendly products contain no hazardous solvents or ingredients and therefore, can not be applied directly on to snow or ice and also ensure to protect them from freezing by storing them in ambient conditions in sealed containers.
Q: Can the products be used on a wet surface?
Yes, as all our world-class formulations are water-based and contain no hazardous ingredients or solvents which enable the user to quickly, efficiently and effectively use on wet vehicle surfaces without any detrimental effect to the finish. Just remember to carry more microfibre cloths for the final dry buff to deliver that all-important mirror gloss showroom shine.
Q: Are Waterless car wash products bad for the environment?
Definitely NOT as all Pearl® waterless products contain no hazardous ingredients unlike those contained in most conventional style products such as petroleum, acids, solvents, etc. which all have an environmental impact and in addition there is no run-off from waterless washing as there is no rinsing involved unlike the thousands of gallons of contaminated wastewater that potentially goes directly into waterways when using traditional bucket-and-hose method washes. Pearl waterless products also contain NO Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) making them extremely user, vehicle and environmentally friendly.
Q: Do Waterless car wash products clean as well as conventional shampoo and water?
They work even better as the special ingredients contained in Pearl waterless scratch-free formulations liquefy and break down dirt on the surface of the car, which is then easily wiped away and then buffed with a microfibre cloth to create instant shine. Not only that but waterless car wash products add an extra layer of protection against dust, grime and dirt from the road, keeping the car cleaner and shinier for longer.
Q: How many vehicles will Pearl® Waterless products clean?
1L of Pearl® Waterless Professional or Advanced Ultra Nano (Nano Technology) will clean and highly polish to premium showroom standard approximately 6-8 averaged sized vehicles. However it all depends on what size of the vehicle is being cleaned and how dirty it is, but on average 100 -160ml will do a whole standard saloon exterior which through regular use becomes easier and the surface shinier with protective layers. Super concentrates are available in 25L drums, 205L barrels and 1000L IBC tanks where 25L of the product when simply diluted will make 250L of ready to use product and will clean, highly polish and protect around 1500 saloon cars.
Q: Where can I use Pearl® Waterless Car Wash Products?
You can use them absolutely anywhere and everywhere you choose; indoors, outdoors and even in direct sunlight or wet conditions and on all types of cars, motorbikes, trucks, coaches, trains, yachts, boats, planes, pedal cycles, any surface that you can possibly imagine as Pearl Waterless products will clean and deliver a highly polished finish where required and using Universal a matte finish. Unlike other products on the market Pearl Premium Waterless Car Wash products & Eco-Friendly Detailing range of products do NOT contain any harmful solvents, petroleum, acids or toxic chemicals. All our products are reliably unique and equally friendly to the user, vehicle and environment.
Advanced Ultra Nano, Professional and Eco Tyre Shine do contain gentle non-volatile silicone which should be considered, as in general terms silicones are not recommended for body shop environments where spray application could potentially affect paint from drying on freshly sprayed bodywork surfaces without the user being aware. Universal can be used without any such consideration, as does not contain any silicone, and to confirm once the paint is dry all our waterless products can and are safely used on paint and all hard surfaces with outstanding effect.
Q: Are Pearl® Waterless products that contain silicone dangerous or harmful?
Definitely NOT and may we reassure you that the silicones we use in our formulations are totally non-hazardous and equally safe for the user, vehicle and environment, and in fact the gentle high-grade silicone emulsions that we use in our formulations are contained within everyday use cosmetic products such as face creams and sun lotions.
Pearl® Advanced Ultra Nano, Professional and Eco Tyre Shine do contain silicones as to clarify that within our range of world-leading waterless car wash and detailing products it is essential to include silicone within certain formulations in order to achieve the overriding specific function to deliver the highest levels of showroom shine and longevity required for the customer’s ‘Wow Factor!’ experience. Without the inclusion of silicones in certain products then they simply would not produce the level of premium performance required, and would certainly not reach the quality of finish that is the prerequisite for the extremely demanding auto aftercare market. We pride ourselves on the outstanding performance, lustre, durability and finish that our products always produce on every single vehicle they are used on delivering unrivalled customer satisfaction.
May we take this opportunity to further explain that Universal Cleaner can, without question and with outstanding effect, be safely used in the body shop environment as contains no silicone or VOCs.
Pearl® Universal Cleaner has a specific function in our waterless system as a multi-purpose interior and exterior cleaner for all soft and hard surfaces with outstanding additional robust capabilities for removing stubborn substances such as brake dust, dead insects, bird lime, etc., from vehicle surfaces. Whilst Universal leaves a completely clean and revitalised surface, as previously mentioned due to the fact there is no silicone content in the product, it will leave a matte or natural factory finish. However, in body shops following the vehicle’s treatment and where sanding dust, polish residue, etc. is generally the only substance to be removed from vehicle surfaces, then Universal Cleaner fits this brief perfectly.
In our experience, once the vehicle paint has dried the body shop will generally wipe down with Universal and pass on the sprayed vehicle to a different department for valeting, as they understand that to achieve the level of paintwork shine necessary for customer total satisfaction requires silicone content and so the final valet is carried out away from the direct vicinity of the paint spray area.
To confirm all Pearl Waterless Car Wash & Eco Car Care Detailing products are classed as ‘leave on products’ which basically means that nothing goes to the ground; no effluents, dirt, chemicals, oils, etc. as they are all captured in the microfibre cloths and not rinsed off using vast amounts of water which then uncontrollably go to ground and potentially enter the water table drainage system. Therefore Pearl Waterless Car Wash products are not classified within detergents regulations and therefore biodegradability is certainly Not a question of concern.
Q: What type of cloth should be used with Pearl® Waterless Car Wash Products?
Only use a high-quality microfibre cloth with Pearl Waterless Car Wash & Detailing products such as our commercially proven Pro Microfibre Cloths which are 40 x 40 cm and 380 GSM, as the microscopic fibres contained in the ultra-absorbent weave in the cloth capture and trap the dirt lifting it safely from the vehicle. We recommend using 2 folded microfibre cloths per vehicle maintenance service wash, one to lift the dirt away from the surface and the other to buff and polish to finish. Fold cloths in half and half again to give you many clean surfaces to work with from each cloth however you may need more than two cloths, particularly for extremely dirty or wet vehicles, especially if they are covered in salt during winter. Pearl® Pro Microfibre Cloths are used by professionals as they absorb higher amounts of water with a thicker and softer weave than normal cloth towels to impart that professional showroom finish.
Q: Can I wash the microfibre cloths and how is it considered to be waterless if you have to clean the microfibre cloths in water?
Yes, once the cloths become excessively soiled and wash after each full use. Machine wash at a low temperature (30 degrees) or hand wash using standard washing powder. Do not use a fabric softener as this can damage the cloth. Pearl Professional Microfibre Cloths can be washed time and time again without interfering with the quality of the weave.
‘Waterless’ is commonly mistaken to mean that water is completely eliminated from the cleaning process, which is an unrealistic expectation as the name suggests Water-Less however as explained above Pearl® waterless products completely negate the need for water buckets, hoses or pressure wash machines and therefore significantly reduce the amount of water used per wash and soiled microfibre cloths can be simply machine washed as you would with dirty clothes or overalls, the dirt is collected in the washing machine’s filtration system and the wastewater is controlled through the household drainage system and so directed to the relevant water treatment plant.
Q: Are waterless products more expensive than soap and water?
Waterless car wash products can be used in more than just surface cleaning as not only do they clean but highly polish and wax protect all in one with the simple process of spray, wiping and buffing panel at a time until all the vehicle is complete; saving you time, effort and money on having to purchase numerous car care products as conventional washing involves using many different products, and processes and revisiting the same area of the car many times over to rinse, shampoo, rinse again, chamois leather and then wait for paintwork to dry before any standard car wax can be applied.
It is of paramount importance to mention at this time that by law, commercial operations have to ensure that none of their wastewater is going where it should not. So hazardous products such as thinners, coolants, effluents, vehicle-cleaning detergents and oily wastewater, etc. must firstly be treated before entering the sewer system.
Therefore the Automotive Industry in compliance with The Environmental Protective Agency has imposed certain guidelines for commercial operations that have to be stringently adhered to or face strict action if they are found to be non-compliant:
- They must have a sediment tank or a silt trap when draining the workshop floor, and an oil separation system for any oily or greasy wastewater to prevent effluents from directly entering the drains.
- They must clearly mark all stormwater drains as only rainwater should be allowed to enter them and must direct all wastewater to the sewerage system for correct treatment.
- They must store all chemicals and contaminated components (oil, brake fluid, battery acid, coolant, etc.) in sealed and leak-free containers or bins, making sure they are all undercover and clearly marked.
Certain waste liquids are classified as “traceable”, which means they require special monitoring and reporting with special disposal procedures. These include oils, transmission fluids, batteries, solvents, paint waste and oil and fuel filters unless flushed and drained of oil. Traceable liquid wastes must be collected and disposed of by a licensed contractor for recycling or reuse.
